i guess i wouldnt like the potter movies as much as i do now, if they were spoken in american english. just imagine O.o the british accent just fits like a fist on the eye to the movies...i like them more on english than on german
in general, some jokes or some expressions, are just understandable or really good when they are on english. and harry potter has lots of them actually

The best example for what -Hermine- wrote:
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, Lupin's first lesson:
Say it very loudly, say it very clearly: Ridiculous!
Everyone except the three Slytherins,: Ridiculous!
Malfoy: This class is ridiculous!
This scene is so cool in English!

It exists also another scene with Ron.
Something with "Uranus" but he understands "your anus" or something like that. I don't remember the details.
I understand the British accent better than die American.
Generally, it also exists exeptions
But I'm proud of me, in "Moonlight" I understand Alex O'Loughlin very good.
He's from Australia and normal I've got many problems to understand Australian people

Aye... there are some really great scenes... some which just don't work in German... that's why I prefer the movies in English.
@Tonks&Lupin: hm... Alex O'Loughlin... I don't wanna dissapoint you... but I think he has barely an Aussie accent in Moolight... well that's at least what I think... well but maybe I'm just too used to the aussie accent

None of you ever noticed that British accent is not British accent and American accent is not American accent?
There's huge differences between regions, even people in southern London don't have the same accents as in northern London and so on.
I've been to school in Lancashire in northern England, and those guys speak every vowel as it's written which means basically they speak as they write and they roll the R. Totally different from my ex down in London who's originally from Birmingham and that's different again. So it's slightly more complicated than just Brit and American.
And after all: Accents is one of those subjects that an actor or actress has to study on!

well no thats true
for example, people from the country, lets say surrey, have slightly a different accent than the ones from london city. i went to school for three months in the city and the accent...yah it is different. but basically i'm not interested at all in american accent because for me its rubbish
and as i said, thanks god potter has british accent (i havent studied the different ones now tho lol)..i think that gives some magic to the movies

Oh, sure I know that
But I said it..general
It's like here in Germany, but if you take Germany and Austria. In this countries are the language German, but listen to an Austrian it's very difficult for a "normal" German.
Ah, can you understand me?
I don't know how to explain it (in) the right way...
